Day 20 Devo - Help In Temptation

One of the helpful benefits of Christ's humanity is seeing His example in temptation.  Jesus endured every kind of temptation and trial we will ever face, probably many which were of a grueling intensity we will never experience ourselves.  In every situation where Jesus suffered in temptation He was completely victorious, and He never sinned.

Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.         (Hebrews 2:18)

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin.  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.            (Hebrews 4:15-16)

Point to Ponder:

Because Jesus was a man Himself, we know He understands the suffering of temptation and the weakness of the flesh.  His perfect track record is proof positive He knows how to help us overcome temptation.  When Jesus offers us victory in temptation, we know He means it!  We should approach Him with confidence, knowing we will receive His mercy and grace to help us when we are tempted.

...The Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials...      (2Peter 2:9)

Submit yourselves, then, to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.        (James 4:7)
