Day 25 Devo - Don't Be Distracted!

There seems to be no limit to the number of things that can distract us during our daily devotions as we try to seek God in the Word and in prayer.  It requires a little bit of self-discipline sometimes to stay on track!

The first thing you must do is to make up your mind that nothing is more important than your time with the Lord.  You must make a conscious decision that you are not going to let anythng prevent you from having that personal time.

The next thing you must do is to realize the ways that the enemy tries to distract you.  Then you must plan to prevent these things from being effective.  For instance - if the telephone always seems to go crazy when you start to pray, there is a reason!   But the answer to this problem is simple - turn off the phone until you are done praying.  If you  always seem to be disturbed by other people when you pray, try to have your prayer time in a more private place where you won't be disturbed.  You can also put a sign on your door that you don't want to be disturbed at that time.

No matter how well you plan, there will always be some distractions that you just can't prevent.  Remember that you have decided not to let these things change your focus.  If the enemy knows that there is a certain way he can always distract you successfully, he will always use that very method.  If you refuse to let yourself be distracted, the enemy will eventually get tired of trying something that just isn't working.

Point to Ponder:

There are certainly many things that can be distracting which we haven't mentioned here.  But whatever the problem may be, your greatest strength is in your decision that you will put God first and not let anything elso interfere.  Refusing to be distracted is an important lesson to learn for effective devotional time!
