Day 19 Devo - Pray in Reverence

Who is the man who reverently fears and worships the Lord?  Him shall He teach in the way that he should choose. . . The secret of the sweet, satisfying companionship of the Lord have they who fear, revere and worship Him, and He will show them His covenant, and reveal to them its deep, inner meaning.  (Psalm 25:12,14 AMP)

God has freely given us all things in Christ Jesus and forgiven us for all our sins.  Sometimes we can begin to take this great gift for granted.  We can forget that our liberty was purchased with Jesus Christ's own blood!  We can forget Who it is Who has humbled Himself to redeem us by the death of His Son!

When the Bible speaks about the fear of the Lord, it is not speaking about the kind of fear that makes us run from Him, as if He wanted to harm us.  The fear of the Lord is a deep reverence and awe of a his Holy Majesty.

God Almighty should not be approached flippantly, as if He were a mere man like us.  If we ever saw just a glimpse of His holy glory, we would surely know the meaning of perfect fear.  Although God loves us dearly, and would never harm His children in any away, He is still the awesome Almighty God, and we do well to give Him all the reverence which He is due.

Point to Ponder:

. . . Let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.    (Hebrews 12:28b-29)
