Day 5 Devo - Promises in the Word

. . . He has given us His very great and precious promise, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption  in the word caused by evil desires.  (2 Peter 1:4)

The evil desires (also called "lusts" or "cravings") that can choke us and keep us from growing up healthy in Christ can be overcome!  Through the promises in God's Word we can have victory over these evil desires in our hearts. We can actually begin to display attributes (characteristics)  of the divine nature.  We can begin to live as Christ lived.

Through our faith in God's promises to us, we can have many victories we could never have experienced before.  But before we can have faith in these great promises God has given us, we must find out what they are!  They are found in the Bible, and it is only through reading and learning God's Word that we can know them.  This is another reason why it is so crucial for us to read God's Word everyday!  As we learn God's promises, we can count on Him to do these things in our lives.  He is always faithful!

Points to Ponder:

Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and Your servant loves them.  (Psalm 119:140)

The psamist loved God's promises because he had relied on them and found them to be true!  As you learn God's promises, you will also find them to be true, and you will learn to love them the same way.
